This November 3, Walnut Creek voters will see Measure W, a school parcel tax measure, on the ballot.
The proposed measure would add an annual tax of $168 per parcel to support the Acalanes Union High School District (AUHSD), which includes our local Las Lomas High School.
WHAT’S AT STAKE?
Our local school districts are underfunded under the state’s current funding model. This is not an expense problem; it is a revenue problem.
While the cost of providing a high-quality education has increased significantly over the past 16 years, local funding from Walnut Creek voter-approved parcel taxes has not kept pace.
One way districts can help close this funding gap is through locally approved funding measures such as parcel taxes, which require two-thirds voter approval to pass.
Without additional funding, Las Lomas could face more difficult reductions that may affect academic programs, class sizes, and valued teachers, counselors, and support staff. AUHSD has already implemented more than $4.2 million in budget reductions since 2024.
